I just love shooting down to Indy for a day trip. They have so many delicious restaurants and I love the bands that play along the Canal. Devour Indianapolis is an annual event with over 60 restaurants participating. This years event ran from August 19 thru September 1. We tried a variety of food and it was all so very delicious, especially the truffle oil popcorn. Music and smells of food lofting through the air. Indy's top craft bartender's competed for bragging rights. The three first place bartenders were Sara Yeager of Chef Joseph's Connoisseur room, Curtis McGaha of Palomino's and Corie Metzler of Tavern on South. Craft drinks Bacardi Blackberry Mojini and Hibiscus Mojito, Sauza's Morning Glory and Grey Goose's Crystal Peach Cosmo and Summer Basil Punch were the winning drinks! They all sound delicious. Congrats to the winners!
We missed the Alexander Hotel's Devour Downtown menu, but we really wanted to check out Indiana's new number one hotel. So we made a special trip to The Alexander located on South Delaware. The hotel was lit up beautifully, very inviting. Love the decor, clean lines, well lit, fresh contemporary styling with warm pops of color as candy for the eyes. Representing the local tastes and stylings of Indianapolis. Plat 99 is a three level mixology lounge utilizing fresh local ingredients for their cocktails. My Craft cocktail was named a Grassy Knoll, Lemongrass infused Indiana Vodka with Prosecco, ccohi Americano, Orgeat, Cucumber and Celery. Fortunately, I enjoy strong flavors coming together nicely. First up was a Chicken Spring Roll with Sweet Chili Sauce. Very tasty, however the presentation would be better if it were cut side up on a diagonal and a smaller plate so it didn't disappear. Next time, I think I will try the Lump Crab Croquettes with tarragon! Ceasar salad was delicious and loved the presentation. Very simple and perfect. The Alexander Burger is Hormone and antibiotic free served with delicious grilled mushrooms, smoked Gouda and a bacon onion jam that is out of this world. The house pickle was yummy! Loved the presentation of the Burger. The service was outstanding...very informed, friendly and professional along with efficient. Loved the food, atmosphere and service. I found it to be a very refreshing stop.
