Prepare 2 pie crust pie dough and chill covered
6 Baking Apples, Granny Smith will work
1/2 C Brown Sugar
1/2 C White Sugar
2 C Water
3 T Butter or Substitute, softened
1/2 t Cinnamon
1/8 t Nutmeg
1/4 C Granulated white sugar
1/4 C packed Brown Sugar
1 t Cinnamon
1 t Nutmeg
1/2 t Ground Cloves
2 T Butter or substitute, softened
Roll pastry 1/8" thick. Cut into six inch squares
Bring syrup ingredients to boil, approximately 2-3
Place apple on center of each pastry square.
Add 1-2 t of Filling
Dot each with t butter. Bring points of pastry up over apple and overlap. Place in a baking pan separated slightly and pour one cup of the hot syrup mixture around dumplings.
Bake at 425 for 45 min. Just before serving pour rest of warm syrup over dumplings and serve with caramel sauce drizzled on top or ice cream.
