Dan Klein from WLFI TV 18 was the emcee for the evening. He introduced Dr. Chester M. Ho, MD, FAAP the Keynote speaker. Dr. Ho is a local West Lafayette Schools and Purdue University Graduate. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago. Impeccable credentials and a part of numerous successful efforts, Dr. Ho is Primary Medical Director for IU Health Arnett and a Riley Pediatrician. His main message was community on this 75th Anniversary, working together and how much it takes to properly assist a child in need. He also discussed how there should never be an acceptable rate of occurrences. "Healthy Babies are Worth the wait." and, "all elective deliveries after 39 weeks" were two key messages within the community it takes to make this happen. In addition, technology has helped with efficient service leading to better care for their patients. Dr. Ho is doing what it takes to make the standard of care live up to the, "Riley Standard."
Dr. Ho introduced young Noah Jackson. He is a shining example of how love and proper care can yield an excellent prognosis of a happy, healthy and well adjusted young lad. This wonderful 8 year old Noah stepped on stage. He was shy at first and talked a bit. It was a moving moment for the crowd.
Dan Klein took the stage again and introduced the auctioneer, Jim VanSchepen, who proceeded to keep the crowd lively. The crowd really enjoyed the necklace raffle, $20 a card (chance) and 52 chances to win a $1000 diamond necklace, donated by Vierk's Fine Jewelry. Other offerings, a Tapas Party from Adelino's, a Hog Roast for 100 people from D & R, Cook Out for 20 from the Outpost Catering, Beat the Blues Buffet from Arni's, Escape to the Cod from Buckley Enterprises, a 4 course wine dinner from Mcgraws and from Outdoor Roomscapes the Ultimate Big Green Egg Cooker. A lively auction with generous bids accumulated to around $40,000 with 280 in attendance, up from 150 last year. Wonderful to see this event. Special Thanks to Brenda Renaldo for handling the details and making it memorable.
